Advanced Insulation – Translation of technical engineering documents with desktop publishing.
Situation
Advanced Insulation specialised in the manufacture and application of unique syntactic phenolic resin-based foam insulation and fire protection systems. It has become the single-source provider for insulation and fire protection systems to the oil and gas industry and has clients all over the world. In addition to many other translation requirements, the company issues a regular newsletter that includes detailed project news and the latest company updates. Advanced Insulation entrusted TOPPAN Digital Language with the translation of their quarterly newsletter into several languages.
Challenge
This particular project presented several challenges given the subject matter of the file to translate, the languages involved and the complex file format. Considering Advanced Insulation’s industry, the newsletter contained highly technical terminology but was written using a creative, marketing-like style. It was extremely important to find a team of linguists with the right technical knowledge and ability to translate more creative texts.
The Results
With the help of our experienced Vendor Management team, we put together a specific team of linguists with the right technical experience and creative skills for this project.
Given the deadlines and steps involved, our Project Manager worked together with our Weekend Team in order to meet a tight deadline.
Using the right DTP tools, our technical team was able to process the InDesign files and Illustrator images, extracting all the text needed for translation in a format that could be processed with CAT tools, further saving time and cost. Once the translation was ready, our DTP team was able to re-create the InDesign files, using the right fonts for each of the languages involved.
Advanced Insulation was impressed by our timely delivery, the additional value-adding comments related to the translation and localisation, as well as by the team’s DTP work.
